MYV acquires the Data Base Software known as GINT Professional. This is done in order to increase our capability in geotechnical data management, being gINT the most powerful geotechnical database and graphical package there is worldwide. In addition to boring log and well log reporting, gINT allows the creation of 2D-3D fence diagrams and cross sections (to show subsurface data), tables, and customized reports. Lastly, Rapid CPT and Rapid DMT are gINT Add-ins that streamline the entire CPT/DMT data management process from importing raw data through analyzing and generating final reports.
Eng. Christian Valerio (Supervisor of the Design Department at MYV) attended the Professional Course: “State-of-the-art design of pile foundations”. The course was held at Deltares Headquarters, Delft, The Netherlands. The aim of the course was to present the complete scope of pile design and pile behavior from the principles to state-of-the-art knowledge on modeling and testing. The main topics discussed throughout the course were: pile design according to Eurocode, axially loaded piles, pile load tests (static, rapid and dynamic), laterally loaded piles; open-ended steel piles; piles under variable and cyclic loads; piled rafts; installation effects; and pile design with Finite Element Models. 53 participants attended the course, from countries like: Greece, Iran, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Turkey, Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Russia, and Costa Rica. The different aspects of pile design and behaviour were discussed by well-known instructors from universities and industrial companies all over the world: Jaap Bijnagte (Deltares, The Netherlands), Maurice Bottiau (Franki Geotechnics, Belgium), Ronald Brinkgreve (TU Delft, The Netherlands), Flor De Cock (Geo.be, Belgium), Jelke Dijkstra (TU Delft), Roger Frank (Université Paris-Est, France), Jurgen Grabe (Hamburg University of Technology, Germany), Alain Holeyman (Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium), Mandy Korff (Deltares, The Netherlands), Haike van Lottum (Deltares, The Netherlands), Dirk Luger (Deltares, The Netherlands), Peter Middendorp (Profound, The Netherlands), Paul Morrison (Arup, United Kingdom), Oliver Reul (University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, Germany), Frits van Tol (TU Delft, The Netherlands), and Pieter Vermeer (Deltares, The Netherlands). A special mention deserves the participation of Dr. Mark Randolph (University of Western Australia) as Course Leader, who is a widely recognized expert in the field of pile foundations, and offshore developments in deep water.
Eng. Christian Valerio (Supervisor of the Design Department at MYV) attended a training course in the use of MIDAS GTS. The course was held at the new headquarters of TNO Diana, Delft, The Netherlands. The course instructors were Dr. Ahmed Elkadi and Dr. Pranesh Chatterjee, both with wide experience in research and consultancy in the field of finite element modeling in geotechnical and civil engineering. Some topics of the course were: soil material modeling and parameter assessment, settlement analysis, construction stages, stress initialization and pore pressure modeling, bearing capacity analysis, stability analysis with c-phi reduction method, concepts of 3D geometrical modeling, concepts of 3D meshing, 3D pile modeling, and 3D tunnel modeling.
Engs. Luis A Vargas and Mauricio Coto (MYV) attended this 4 hours-course regarding the use of the Seismic Dilatometer (SDMT), being the course instructors both Prof. Silvano Marchetti and Eng. Diego Marchetti. The course was taught at the room of Allan McConnell, at the Hyatt Hotel (Hungtington Beach, California). The course was presented to a small group of both new and old DMT users, including: Allan McConnell, Glen Beavan, and Andrew Ferguson (Insitu Geotech Services, Australia), Marco Holtrigter (Ground Investigation Ltd, New Zealand) and Adam Bench (GPE, Inc., Florida), as well as L Vargas and M Coto (MYV Soluciones Geotécnicas, Costa Rica).
Engs. Mauricio Coto y Luis A. Vargas (MYV) atended the Second International Symposium on CPT denominated as CPT10, that was held at Huntington Beach, California. The theme of the Symposium was the solution of geotechnical and geo-environmental problems using the Cone Penetration Test (CPT). Particular emphasis was placed on the exchange of practical experience and the application of research results through key note lectures and panel-lead discussion sessions. In total, 240 participants from 40 countries attended the Symposium. Renowned experts in the field of Geotechnical Engineering were part of the event, such like: Silvano Marchetti, Tom Lunne, Peter Robertson, John Powell, Paul Mayne, Fernando Schnaid, Antonio Viana da Fonseca, Rolf Larsson, James Schneider, Mark Randolph, and James K. Mitchell. High level companies were among the sponsors of the event, including: AP Van den Berg, Geomill, Studio Marchetti, Vertek, Pagani, Envi, Geotech, Gregg Drilling, Fugro, Lankelma, and the like.
